Opinion: The Death of A Shepherd
A few days ago, we heard the devastating news that Fr. Mark Ventura of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao was murdered by gunmen riding in tandem after celebrating Mass in a chapel in that Archdiocese. Yes! A priest was killed and the police are still without a trace who the murderers are and their motives. Hours after this was publicized in social media, I did some research on the killing of priests and I did find something on the internet: many priests are have been killed and continue to be kidnapped in Mexico, and in the Philippines - known as the only Christian country in Asia - 2 have been murdered, Fr. Marcelito Paez in Nueva Ecija, and recently, Fr. Mark Ventura in Cagayan. Why are priests being killed? is it because of politics? The environment? Human Rights? Jealousy?
